D3O®, the global leader in impact protection integrated into FIVE gloves
Protection is a key focus in the development of FIVE gloves. This includes protection for the metacarpals and hypothenar, which are exposed to impact in the event of a fall.
We therefore pay particular attention to the design and manufacture of our protective shells. In particular, we draw inspiration from helmet technology for certain types of shells. With rigid elements on the outside (like a helmet shell) and flexible elements on the inside to absorb the energy absorbed in the event of an impact (like the internal shock-absorbing liner of a helmet).
When it comes to internal components, whether visible beneath the rigid outer shell or hidden beneath fabric or leather, we have developed our own designs featuring an ergonomic shape incorporating a honeycomb structure, which is ideal for absorbing impact and, when hollow (on certain models), allowing for perfect air circulation.
The global leader in impact absorption is none other than D3O®, thanks to its invention of an innovative flexible material that is ideal for use as ergonomic protection, absorbing energy and hardening immediately upon impact, thereby reinforcing its protective properties.
D3O® material is found in the best protective equipment for high-risk sports. It helps reduce the risk of injury while increasing user confidence. It is easily identifiable by its iconic orange color.
We therefore recently approached D3O® to establish a tailor-made partnership. While D3O® commonly supplies standard flexible shells from its production line to all of its equipment manufacturer partners, we went one step further!
We agreed to inject D3O® material into our own shell molds, designed entirely by FIVE's Design R&D department. In other words, we offer the best of our designs combined with the best material for an unprecedented level of protection.
And because we are perfectionists, we have managed to incorporate D3O® material in a color other than the iconic orange, in order to maintain the aesthetic harmony of some of our models. In other words, you will see orange D3O® elements on some FIVE gloves, but also in a variety of other colors. And this is a first for D3O®!
We reserve the integration of D3O® material for our most protective high-end models, whether it involves injecting D3O® into our own metacarpal or hypothenar protection shells, or adding additional elements such as D3O® AeroMax foam plates at other contact points (inside of the thumb, etc.).
The integration of D3O® material into our models clearly shows that everything has been designed to offer the best possible level of protection.
