D3O® Protection
D3O®, the world leader in impact protection integrated into FIVE® gloves
Protection is a major focus of FIVE glove development. In particular, protection of the metacarpals and hypothenar, which are exposed to impact in the event of a fall.
We therefore pay particular attention to the design and production of our protective shells. For certain types of shell, we draw our inspiration from helmet technology. These include rigid elements on the outside (like a helmet shell), and flexible elements on the inside to absorb energy in the event of impact (like a helmet's internal shock-absorbing pad).
When it comes to internal elements, whether visible under the rigid outer shell or invisible under fabric or leather, we've developed our own concepts, featuring an ergonomic shape incorporating a honeycomb structure, ideal for absorbing impact and, when hollow (on certain models), allowing perfect air circulation.
The world leader in impact absorption is none other than D3O®, through the invention of an innovative soft material - ideal for use as ergonomic protection - which absorbs energy and hardens immediately on impact, reinforcing its protective qualities.
D3O® material can be found on the best protective equipment for high-risk sports. It helps reduce the risk of injury while increasing user confidence. It is easily identifiable by its iconic orange color.
So we recently approached D3O® to enter into a tailor-made partnership. While D3O® routinely supplies all its OEM partners with standard soft shells from their production, we went one step further!
Together, we agreed to inject the D3O® material into our own hull molds, designed entirely by FIVE's R&D design department. In other words, we offer the best of our concepts combined with the best material, for an unprecedented level of protection.
And because we're perfectionists, we were able to integrate the D3O® material in a color other than the iconic orange, to respect the aesthetic harmony of some of our models. In other words, on some FIVE gloves you'll see D3O® elements in orange, but also in other colors. And this is a first for D3O®!
We reserve the integration of D3O® material for our most protective high-end models, whether by injecting D3O® into our own protective shells for the metacarpals or hypothenar, or by adopting additional elements such as D3O® AeroMax foam plates on other contact points (inside of thumb, etc.).
The inclusion of D3O® material on our models is a clear indication that everything has been thought out to offer the best possible level of protection.
