Technical Glossary
5_DRYTECH™ – Waterproof, breathable, and windproof membrane developed by FIVE specifically for cycling. Allows perspiration to evaporate while preventing rain from penetrating. Attached to the outer structure and lining with adhesive strips for optimal support.
5_WARMTECH™ – A special 3D polyester fiber that acts as thermal insulation, developed by FIVE for use on two-wheeled vehicles, designed to protect against the cold. Placed between the waterproof-breathable membrane and the inner lining of the glove, this synthetic fiber insulates from the cold by trapping the most effective insulator inside its fibers: air (and the natural heat of the hand)! Available in different densities and weights adapted to different areas of the glove.

D3O® – A non-Newtonian (also known as dilatant) material used for impact protection, which has the unique property of changing its mechanical behavior depending on whether it is deformed slowly or quickly. When handled slowly, D3O® (commonly orange in color) resembles modeling clay, but when subjected to impact, it hardens, absorbs and disperses energy, before instantly returning to its flexible state. This makes it both comfortable and protective.

Embossed – A relief effect that highlights a decorative element (logo or other).
ERGO PROTECH® – Protective shell designed by FIVE, with a registered design, which can be visible or concealed under fabric or leather, offering superior ergonomic and protective properties. Available in a single-piece or split version. The single-piece TPR versions feature an internal honeycomb structure for optimal energy absorption. (FIVE designation)
GUTTERMANN® – Sewing thread from Germany. Used on our high-performance gloves for its superior tear resistance and to limit the risk of cuts in the event of an accident.
HIPORA® – Waterproof-breathable membrane offering excellent waterproofing and breathability properties.
Hypothenar – Region of the hand comprising a group of muscles that control the movement of the little finger.
KEVLAR® – A synthetic fiber made from aramid resin that is highly resistant to tearing, puncturing, and abrasion. Its high strength makes it ideal for use in bulletproof vests, for example.
KEVLAR® stretch – Kevlar® fiber with elastic properties.
Anti-twist link – An element connecting the little finger to the ring finger, designed to limit the effect of the little finger being pulled apart in the event of a fall. Made of leather and accordion-shaped (a FIVE innovation) on our Racing gloves to limit the range of motion without being restrictive.
Lycra® – Synthetic fiber with elastic properties. We use it in areas requiring perfect elasticity, such as around the fingers or at the wrist opening.
Metacarpals – The bones that form the skeleton of the palm of the hand and are located between the fingers and the wrist.
Memory foam – A material composed of viscoelastic foam that returns to its original shape after being deformed. We use it in areas that need to absorb impact or as a comfort element.
